I'm busy contemplating the development iof this project. I need to put some technologies in place that will be easy to use and yet sophisticated to deliver a great experience. I'm thinking largely about open source and web 2 applications and as far as possible free.
The domain name http://www.edenmedia.org.uk has been registered. I think that what will sit there will most probably be a WordPress. We could go for an entirely free hosted Wordpress but we need to install a range of plugins to facilitate the podcasts and also allow a degree of moderation. So therefore we need an "installed" version of wordpress on some webspace for the project. This will not be terribly expensive.
To allow as many voices as possible to be heard we need to add other media capabilities and I'm thinking about Ning which I am quite familiar with. However KickApps also looks promising and I'm experimenting with that too.
The other component is how to support participants which will need to be quite electronic given the distance between Teesside and Cumbria. I have some ideas for this including the discussion forum on this page. We probably also need an email list which I will set up in Google Groups. I'll put both of Anna's email addy's in so she'll always get the message whilst at work or play!

I've set up webspace and installed and configured a Wordpress. Also added a Ning for media uploads. I know I said I would explore Kickapps but with time pressing on I wanted to get something I'm familiar with going. This also exactly replicates work I'm doing in Stockton. I've also found a Wordpress plugin that uses Ning membership to allow commenting. This could prove useful.

I've renewed the riverfest.co.uk domain name. The intention is to give out the address media@riverfest.co.uk during Stockton Riverside Festival so that videos and images can be sent via mobile phone (moderated). Next I'll set up a public account on the Ning and then set up email forwarding so that media@riverfest.co.uk goes into this account. This is somewhat experimental so it remains to be seen whether it works.
set up Ning account on Stockton with email ning@riverfest.co.uk ( this email is forwarded to me in case of any system messages) [password same as Teesmus account] Like all such accounts I set up this dudes birthday is the same as Unix
I tested this and have been successful in emailing a picture to RiverFest149@stocktondv.ning.com but the media@riverfest.co.uk has not arrived yet meaning either (a) it's a slower method (b) the forwarding is not working or (c) NING sees the email as coming from the wrong address and rejects it

- media@riverfest.co.uk is forwarded to RiverFest149@stocktondv.ning.com - the subject of the email becomes the title and the body of the email becomes the description. One video or pic per message (will test)
